The name is tradtional, the topic should really just be music in general. 

Recently saw The Smashing Pumpkins, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen in overall artistry of the set presentation. They're less like going to see a band and more like seeing an art exhibit. It was a beautiful show. 

Also saw OK Go. A very kid-friendly band, they didn't play any of their songs that would be inappropriate for you a younger audience (to my disappointment), and they totally engaged the kids in the crowd, including bringing them on stage. Very interactive band, very nerdy. They had an app, everyone downloaded it, and together the entire audience played a song with them, on their phones. It was... pretty fucking epic. 

Also..  Milky Chance at the Van Bruen in downtown Phoenix. Check them out. Great German folk band.

I hate the way Billy Corgan (or however the fuck you spell his name) sings.  The music is well written and played skillfully and then he starts singing and I have to turn it off.  I wish it were not so.

I enjoy his voice. They're a band-geek/drama geek band, no doubt about it. I think if I had known them in High School, I would have bullied them and not understood their popularity.  There is something about the entire band that reminds me of Land Park and C K McClatchy. Not sure why that is... but it has always been that way. 
Disarmed was their big breakout song - and it is still probably my favorite by them. 

Metallica, Master of Puppets, playing on Youtube right now. It is like it is 1986 again. It doesn't suck. 

There is some discussion going on over at Facebook about the movie "Heavy Metal," and if the bands on the soundtrack are metal. 

I think the Beatles were the first band to experiment with guitar in a way that eventually became both metal and punk. 

Of course, they got this sound from some of the more intense bands of the 50s. But the Beatles were the first band that made the sound wildly accessible. 

Spent an evening listening to music with a friend by a fire in the backyard. From the Kinks (Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon) to the Doors (The End) with everything in between from the Deftones to Duran Duran and Souixse. It was a great way to spend a Friday. Music remains the ultimate way to travel cheaply. 

Scott Adams said today that music is a drug. This was prompted by a tweet from Akira the Don who said he can change the mood of an audience with his DJing choices. Which is true but perhaps only because we're there for that reason, you know? If I don't like the music I won't pay for the concert. But that's exactly the same as a drug: if I don't like the effects I won't take it. What I decided is that music is one of the many ways I can share my agency with people who give me a good ROI. 

Music is like scent - it can take you back instantly to a place and time and make you vividly relive it. But I agree with you - some music, doesn't take me anyplace I am interested in going. :) 

I specifically choose music that makes me cheerful and avoid angry music.  Music keeps my mood where it needs to be so I don't destroy things and people.

I have less taste for angry music than I did as a kid... I like punk though. Punk is a kind of angry I don't mind. 

I use Slipknot to wake up in the morning, and for the drive home..good energy music to wake the dead is my go to

I had an interesting conversation with a guy at work about music. He was a punk and got into drugs and ended up with a lot of problems because of it - and he feels like the content of the music with very significant in influencing his attitudes and goals. I felt that music isn't the problem, it is the person being very receptive to suggestions. He had never thought of it that way, because he had only seen it from his own personal perspective. 

What I mean is that angry music MIGHT make you feel angry and dark - but it might just energize you and give you a lot of drive - and a lot of that seems to come down to the individual person and how they parse the music, and what part resonates with them.

Interestingly - yes. He thought about it for a while and came back and told me, "You know, I had never thought of it that way. You're probably right." 

I listen to a lot of synthpop and EDM and melodic stuff.  I like when metal bands do ballads but I can't stand anything with growling.  I miss Van Halen.  They were melodic and fun and so very very skilled.

I am neither a fan of the growling or the "gagging on a dick-metal" of bands like Disturbed. 

Woodstock50.... or maybe not.

Recently listened to some of the metal Sir Christopher Lee made.  Pretty good stuff.
