Subject: Reliability of BMWs (various years)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

First, I like all your cars some of you all have posted! I’m kind of considering one as a second vehicle. The ones that I see that are affordable on my local Craigslist are older models like 2005, 2006. Were there any models or specific years that were known for issues? Anything I should know when buying one and how much are maintenance costs?

Subject: 2016 330i mini lag while shifting when accelerating rapidly

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi,

So I have this 330i that when speeding up in sport mode, it seems the car does a sort of mini lag when shifting. (It does have a turbo in it). However it jerks slightly like it's losing traction yet the car is firmly on the road.

It almost seems like fuel isn't getting fed to the engine efficiently but I can't quite figure out. It occurs at high rpms, losing power for a split second but then resumes picking up speed. Similar to coughing suddenly while running.

I don't know if that's a good analogy but that's the best I came up with.

Subject: Passed MOT but Power Speed/Traction Control light still flashing?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

My BMW 3 Series passed its MOT Yesterday - much to my surprise as it’s barely drivable due to the Power Speed warning flashing up every ten seconds or so. I’ll be driving 60mph and it’ll take me right down to 40mph for a few seconds and then I have to accelerate again. Or it’ll kick in as I pull away from a junction or at a roundabout, making swift exits veeeery risky.

HOW can my cat have passed it’s MOT?? I’d assumed they would fix it at the garage, but it doesn’t seem to have flagged up at all. How much am I looking at to fix this?

Subject: Bmw launch control on G20 m340i

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi there I’ve read around here that after “50-100” launches “downgrades” your launch control to ensure the lifespan of your drivetrain. Anybody can confirm this? Never heard of this. Some say its safe to use, some say it hurts the car… anybody know the truth? Did like 6-7 launches in 3500km of use Car has a total of 7500km M340i 2021 xdrive Thanks

Subject: New to BMW family. Need Help!

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hey Everyone!

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before or a lot but, here I go.

So recently (passed 5 months) I have been heavily researching new vehicles for myself. I've been leaning towards purchasing a new BMW for the first time ever. I have never driven or owned a BMW before.

At the moment my heart is set on a new M3. That being said, I've been doing research and the 440i seems to also be a very viable option as well.

My question is, what's the biggest difference between the 2 and what would be a better direction for me? Also, if there is another option rather than those two that I may have missed your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To better help with this question, I used to drive a Mercedes C43 and currently a 19' Audi A6. I store my car in the winter and drive it all summer long. Also type of person who babies a vehicle and details it every week. I tend to lean towards more of cool options and tech in the vehicle. I don't race nor do anything crazy with vehicles. I prefer luxury but, I love hearing and having a vehicle with an aggressive exhaust. Great sound system a must as well.

Thank you all for the help!

Subject: Can I safely drive my BMW 320i for another two weeks?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Per the mechanic Rats chewed two wires leading to the PCM causing my cars check engine light to illuminate. I have a shop appointment on December 1st and it's currently November 20th. Will I be able to safely operate the car until then. The vehicle is operating normally and the mechanic said I'd be find, but I am overly cautious about this kind of stuff and like to get multiple opinions.
