Subject: Why are BMW owners hated?
I don’t understand why BMW drivers get labeled as assholes or “stuck up” and whatnot just because we drive a BMW?
We get called “ridiculous” if we park far away from others in a parking lot. “Stupid” if we so happen to speed a little bit down a freeway.
We get called being too dramatic if we make a big deal about a scratch or knick or the way we clean our cars.
I’m sorry, but when did it become wrong to take pride in making sure your car is looking nice? If I want to park far away from other cars in a parking lot to avoid door dings, why does that bother you? If ANY damage is done to my car, I want to be the one who puts it there. I don’t want damage done to my car at the hands of someone else.
If I’m particular about the way I wash my car so WHAT?! I would think ANYONE who cares about their car, whether they drive a 2021 BMW or a 1995 Honda is that way about it. Especially if you worked hard to buy it, wouldn’t you want to keep it looking nice?
My younger sibling drives a 1996 Lexus LS 400. He keeps that mf looking SPECTACULAR. He doesn’t even want you leaning on his car. And that’s because he takes pride in it.
So again I don’t get why BMW drivers get labeled and ridiculed. I’d think if you like your car and want it looking nice then you’re going to do what it takes to keep it that way.

Subject: Update: I bought the 2022 540i xDrive
2022 BMW 540i xDrive Sedan. MSRP of 71,815. I asked for $69,815, which they gave. Phytonic Blue, black interior, M Sport Package with 19" x 8" M Y-Spoke Bi-Color Jet Black wheels, Premium Package, and Shadowline package.
Originally they offered $10k for my 2015 Lexus ES 350. I searched around and did a few of those instant offers. Got one from KBB for $13,264 and showed it to the BMW dealer. Said match this and we have a deal. Got a call back 20 minutes later that we had a deal.
Signed all the paperwork and gave them a check earlier today and I take delivery tomorrow. Really appreciate everyone's input.

Subject: Looking at buying an e60 m5 with unknown maintenance and some issues that need to be addressed sooner than later
I’m looking at an e60 m5 with a strong likelihood of buying it. It’s not the best idea and I’m not looking for a thumbs up or down, more of a “what am I in for”. The seller has been more or less transparent.
For starters, it’s a 2007 e60 m5 with 115k miles with 7 speed smg. The owner has only owned it for 4 months, had a baby on the way and is looking for something more reliable since it’s his only car.
I ran a carfax and was in a minor accident in 2013, no airbags deployed, unfortunately no other information. It has had 9 owners (yes 9 damn owners - this car has been whored around). The first 7 owners in the first 12 years and the last owner before current owned it for 3 years.
It’s in the rust belt so it’s been driven in the winter, I’m not sure how bad rust is on these cars but curious to know other experiences. There’s no rust on the body and I’m waiting on pics of the undercarriage. The interior is actually in very good condition, no cracks nor rips in the leather.
The iDrive system is just dim with the BMW logo, said it could possibly be a fuse(unlikely) but I’ll be looking to upgrade the CCC to a CIC. I know that’s about $1200 for nicks CIC.
The car is in reduced power mode. But runs and drives fine. This is what idk too much about and am still looking to do some research.
No leaks, and he said it doesn’t burn oil but come on….it’s a BMW and an M5 so I’m going in with the thought that it does burn oil.
The rod bearings may or may not have been replaced, the owner that had it for 3 years was a tech and did a good amount of the maintenance. But I’m going in with the thought that it’ll need to be done soon.
The pads are squeaking, so they’ll need to be replaced soon.
There’s a sound coming from the rear driver side brake, I’m thinking it might be a caliper but the ABS light is on so he thinks it has to do with that. I’m clueless here.
As I’m writing this I know well that this car needs work and maintenance to catch up on. This is not going to be my primary car. This is a car that I’ve dreamed of owning and I get to buy it for relatively cheap at $9k hence the issues.
I’m very capable and have worked on many cars including e36 M3 extensively. I’m actually rebuilding an e36 M3 from the ground up.
Subject: Car and Driver / M5
So, I'll admit I'm partial as I've been a BMW fan my whole life. With that, I'd like to think I'm pretty open minded. I still love an American V8, and actually do like what Audi brings to the table. When I was growing up (now 40) I read every Car and Driver cover to cover. BMWs dominated.
I know the brand has stubbed their toe over the years, but the market is so competitive and while most of us on this sub are car nerds, reality is I understand they have to balance the enthusiast market with volume and sales.
The past 5 years or so, I've found C&D to be super obnoxious, they try to hard to be overly witty, borderline woke and political, and I much prefer motor trend now.
I was excited to read this review, as I have a "lowly" F10 535 but still was pulling for this ridiculous new M5 to mop the floor with the Audi and Chevy, er Cadillac. How did the BMW lose? Best brakes, by far the fastest, and how do they say it's not great looking compared to the comp set??
I respect the Caddy, it's a pretty mean machine and super cool it comes in manual. The Audi is also a great car but kind of boring in this segment. It seems Hurst media has it out for BMW, could just be me.
Thanks for listening to my rant, I'd kill to have that M5 in my garage!
