Subject: I hate BMW's new design language but I can't argue that they've created an identity
![]() | Overstyled cars and large grills and probably other things that people more versed in car design can tell me about but to me, I feel like BMW's do have a signature to them that you can tell if it's a BMW, no matter how much the rest is watered down. I dislike the new M3 and 4 series grill, the fact it looks best when it's hidden in black is really not a compliment to what I think of the design. Yet, I cannot argue that when I see that buck-toothed bastard, I know instantly its a BMW. It would not be surprising if the reason why people who buy these new cars either don't care, or are happy its distinctive as they can flout their wealth with BMW as a perfect legacy brand. I often see people talking about the Asian market driving change but I took the data linked below(best-selling-cars.com) to calculate the nominal increases with America's driving as much change as Asia. I don't know where I'm going with this more than to say that because these new cars are identifiable as BMW's and it's clearly what people want, there's going to be no change back to what I like and that just kinda makes me sad.
