Subject: How long do you keep your BMWs?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’m a long time lurker and I got my F25 about 1 year ago. With about 60k miles so far it’s at a little over 80k miles. Honestly just love taking road trips in the thing. I heard that the general rule of thumb is to get rid of them before 100k miles due to a lot of gremlins that start showing up. Is that true? I love my SAV and with the v6 twin turbo it’s amazing to drive. I’m also worried that after 100k deprecation will take a big hit. Sorry for the dumb questions!

I have been looking at 18 and 19 X3s as a back up and if anyone has any thoughts on them too that would help!

Subject: Lease ending soon on my M340i

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

As the title says my lease is up in august, I’m way under miles at the moment. And with the current climate of getting a new car I was wondering if it’s worth buying my current car out or should I not go down that route?

Subject: First BMW help

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A couple years ago I created the goal M5 by 35. I am about to turn 33 and want to upgrade soon but I just had my second child so unless my stock portfolio blows up the M5 isn't going to happen. I am currently looking at M340i, M3, M550i, and the i4 M40. I am open to other model suggestions and just looking for some inputs to think about as a first time buyer. It doesn't have to be brand new but I do prefer the newer technology. Thanks!

Subject: A real headache trying to find a muffler that would fit.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I decided recently i wanted to make my 3-series a little louder, and also lower it. The coilovers were easy enough to find, as most of them aren’t too car-specific. But performance mufflers have been a different story, so here’s a little warning to anyone trying to do what i’m doing.

So first I found some videos with the Magnaflow mufflers, and i really like the sound however a lot of these people have the same make and model of my car yet all of them seemed to have different mufflers installed. Keep in mind, im not great with cars so this was already a bit confusing to me. Then I noticed that most of their mufflers are “universal” but some of the reviews with my car said it didn’t fit. So naturally, I called magnaflow and they were able to look up my car and give me 3 options that may correlate to my inlet-outlet diameter, however the guy couldn’t recommend me just one based off the year and model alone so he directed me to call BMW myself. FINALLY today i called BMW, had to give them the last 7 digits of my VIN, and then they told me the inlet-outlet diameter (2.5). Wow, it was a lot more work than I expected. Is this the same for most cars where you have to get very specific parts to YOUR car or is this just a BMW thing where they make it ultra complicated?
