Subject: Mod announcement. Rule #5 self promotion, social media, and related stuff.
Dear BMW enthusiasts, thank you for continuing to help the mod team by reporting posts and comments that break the rules. You get no feedback, we don't know who reported it, but trust me, it really helps.
The rules were written some time ago and I'm struggling to find a better way to word them. Instead I will explain here what the the most vague rule #5 is for:
The main reason for it is to stop driving traffic away from this sub. If everyone leaves for Instagram, Youtube, or Facebook then this place dies.
We allow some self promotion but it has to be in proportion to your contribution to the sub. If all you post is "look at my YT channel" and all your comments are under those posts then it's against the rules.
Then it's also how you post it. Photo of a nice BMW with descriptive title and comment that includes some information about the car, your experience with it, the photo location, etc. is great. If you include the IG handle at the end of that comment so be it.
Same photo without a comment, titled "Follow me on IG @Car_goes_brrr_ha_ha" sends completely different message.
I hope that clears it up at least a bit.

Subject: Be respectful. Detailed explanation of rule #2
Dear BMW fans, over the last couple of months I noticed increased negativity in our subreddit.
Let's look at two main issues:
1. New BMW designs.
Yes, they are polarizing. Yes, they are very different from the old designs. No, you don't have to like them. I personally prefer the older designs but you don't see me spewing hate under each post of the new 4 series or the G80/82.
I believe I have now given everyone enough time to get over it, get the troll jokes out of their system "haha, no wonder you took the picture from the back, the front looks like shit".
You can still express your feelings towards the new designs but it can be done in respectful way. "Man, I wish they gave at least the G80 a normal sized grille" sends a very different message than "Dude, that looks like a retarded pig, how could you spend money on such atrocity?"
So let's try to be better. Instead of negative comments under photos of the cars you hate, go and post positive comments in threads about the models you like.
2. Separation between the car and the driver.
This is a car subreddit. Let's keep it that way. Comment on cars not on people.
This goes for posters and commenters. There is no reason to include your age and financial status in the title of a simple photo post.
OP - Yes, you bought a nice car. What difference does it make if you are only 17? And that your parents did or did not help you pay for it? Sure, you care, it's ok to be proud of it but it's completely irrelevant to everyone else.
Instead, share what the car means to you. Why you chose it. What you plan to do with it, etc ...
Commenters - It's not ok to assume OP's age, financial status, gender, how many sexual favours they had to perform to afford a car, etc ...
It is ok to express your concern over a new driver having a high performance car or poor person getting a model with known high maintenance costs.
But again, it can be done in respectful manner and I would like to ask you to at least try.
Bonus: The above issues are on top of regular reddit etiquette. Please tell me I don't have to explain the basics of being a decent human being.
