Subject: Mister FPGA and shimmering while scrolling vertically.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Just built a Mister after owning and enjoying a Super NT and a million emulation devices so please be gentle! My issue is this: no matter what settings I try, I get shimmering on vertical scrolling. I am currently running in 1080p via HDMI to my 4k tv.

I'm not quite sure how to interpret the "integer scaling" options in the settings and I'm also not quite sure how to adjust the aspect ratio. On the Super NT, it's as simple as setting the desired height and width (or picking 5x etc), but on the Mister it looks like I can only pick "original" or "fullscreen"? I use the interpolation sharp filters and those seem to work ok otherwise, but the shimmering remains. On the Super NT, I've followed the firebrandx guide for 1080p but I'm having trouble nailing down the same "look" here on my Mister.

Can someone please help or point me in the right direction?

The 31kzh generation clearly *wishes* it was a 15khz generation - but if you point this out to them, they'll tell you to STFU, boomer.

Subject: MiSTER save game location and .srm / .sav extension change?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I like having the option to swap my SD card with other systems and keep on gaming. My Analogue Super NT with an SD2SNES and/or my RG350 portable device. Both of these systems use .srm extensions for most save games. Also, the location of the save folders is different.

Is there any way to change the default save folder location on the MiSTER? Is there any way to have it save in .srm rather than .sav (the format is exactly the same, just extension is different).

I realise it might also be possible to run a script when I have finished playing to copy saves to the location I want, and then run a script before I start playing to do the opposite. Anyone have any experience of this?

Maybe there is a simple solution to this, but so far not having luck finding one. Thanks

Subject: “MiSTerFPGA” Please help me getting the most accurate video settings to the original consoles using 1080p signal on a 4K TV !!

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I really like the MiSTer more than any of my modded consoles right now.. but I’ve been searching for the most optimal settings with the MiSTer video output recently and I always ends up with multiple answers.. I really don’t care about the image size or sharpness.. I only want a picture quality identical to the real nes snes genesis etc.. and if I use any filter or scanline options could those features ends up ruined the picture accuracy? I don’t want any shimmering or Un-square Pixels etc!!

Thank you all in advance :)

Subject: Badge or no badge?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Putting the finishing touches to my MiSTer ITX build, but I can't decide if it looks better with a badge or no badge.

I'm inclined to the latter at the moment.

Subject: Mini ITX Build.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Thought I'd start a new thread with a more appropriate heading.

I built this with off-the-shelf parts because I don't have access to a workshop, power tools or a 3D printer, etc, although I do own a small handheld electric drill.

I'm no sparky either and have only basic electrical knowledge, and similar level soldering skills.

The DE-10 is mounted on a peice of perspex that I measured, cut to size and mounted to the motherboard posts in the case.

The rear IO plate is made out of the same material and stuck to the rear of the case with thermal double-sided tape, which is incredibly strong.

The fan plate is also handmade. Also perspex.

Everything else was plug and play, but I did spend a considerable amount of time figuring out the best way to route cables and position the DE-10/hardware. Most of it was trial and error with frequent visits to the hardware shop.

I have integrated the DB9 daemonbite adaptors into the case because I didn't want lots of external peripherals.

I chose the DB9 because they are compact. More importantly, the 8bitdo Genesis M30 2.4g receivers have the lowest latency of any wireless controller. Also, you can sync all the 8bitdo controllers in the picture to that particular receiver.

I'm pretty happy with the end result. The only thing I want to do now is to make the front power button into a reset switch. Does anyone know if there is a way of doing this? I don't have the IO board, which I don't need.

This case is relatively future proof. I can add hardrives and also, I think, the IO board should I ever need one. There is sufficient depth in the case to accommodate them.

By the way, I'm still in two minds about the badge! But I'll leave it there for the time being or until I find something nicer.

Subject: Addons/case shortage?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I stupidly bought a DE-10 nano without realizing how much other stuff I'd need (or just want). Seems like a lot of the respected sellers are out of I/O boards, memory, cases, etc.

I'm guessing demand is still high, can anyone explain why it's so hard to find a case? Boards kind of make sense due to the ongoing chip shortage, but why are there so many available from China? I'm assuming those are not legit?

Off topic, I fired up some Genesis games yesterday and man this thing is amazing.

Subject: Can you use the mini USB port on the DE10 nano at the same time as the micro USB port with Mister? and other related questions.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have some questions regarding the USB ports on the DE10 nano board. There are quite a few so I'll just list them in case anyone knows the answers! Gold award if you can answer them all authoritatively :)

  1. Can you use the mini USB port on the DE10 nano at the same time as the micro USB port with Mister?
  2. Are either of the mini/micro ports USB 3.0? (Yes they support the cables which are backwards compatible, but are they physically USB 3.0 with extra data transfer speeds etc.)
  3. If it is 3.0, could that have any noticeable impact on input lag for mister vs. 2.0? i.e. is 2.0 more than a frame slower?
  4. Can you run an SSD off of an unpowered USB hub without issue? Do you have personal experience of doing this?
  5. Will running an SSD off of an unpowered hub reduce the lifespan of the DE10 by introducing extra strain on components?
  6. Will running an SSD off of a powered or unpowered hub impact other devices connected to that hub? e.g. introduce lag etc.?

Thank you!
