Subject: Is it safe to choose a VPN exit point in your own country?
Asking for a friend who torrents but may not be cautious enough and is certainly not very computer savvy.
Friend lives in a Five Eyes country and uses Express VPN. Friend selects the VPN exit gateway to be in their own country so as to get relevant news, search results, etc.
To me, it feels wrong, but I cannot explain why friend should not do this.
Does is make him any safer if his exit gateway is in a country other than his own? Even, for sake of argument, if it was another Five Eyes country?
Can you explain it like I am five (as I have to relay the answer to friend)?

Subject: "US billionaire surrenders $70m of stolen art." Owning millions in stolen art isn't a crime but pirating movies is? GTFO
Subject: What happened to all the audio production software/plugin websites?
Full disclaimer first - I used to produce dance music, well, I tried to. In my teens up until around the time I finished university (did a music business degree) I wanted to produce trance music. Gave up, wasn't good enough. My tastes varied and I now work in the dance music industry. Marketing, PR, looking at going into tour management and done some bits, not sure if it's a full time thing. I also DJ and do photography and a bit of videography.
I used to pirate the likes of (software we can't mention for editing photos and video or thread is auto-removed), but then when I started getting paid work, I now pay for a subscription. It could have been like music production - I could have sucked balls so it would have been a waste of a LOT of money.
Now I want to try my hand at producing some bits again - house, tech house, etc, but I'm not about to throw massive amounts of money down the drain if I'm just going to piss about for a few weeks then call it a day again. This is r/piracy, we know how it works. If I get signed (hah!) and start getting DJ gigs from it, all the money will go on buying shit legally first.
But what happened to all the audio warez sites? Used to be really easy - we're talking like 2006-2010ish. There's now nothing on your standard torrent sites (Pirate Bay, etc) anymore that isn't outdated or has loads of red flags for mining malware. Places like Audioz rely on premium download subscriptions to the likes of Rapidgator, and I don't trust paying them.
Why are there no private trackers you can just sign up to and as long as you're a good egg and seed properly you're good to go? Hell, I have uber-fast unlimited fibre, I'd gladly leave shit seeding all day and night. But I can't find any and those mentioned on a search of this sub either seem to no longer exist or are totally closed to new member with zero way to get a referral.
What gives? Did the software industry finally win?

Is there any significance in the log when it shows "Successfully listening on IP: *shows IPV6*" or is the "External IP Detected: *VPN IP*" the only one that is publicly visable?

Does anyone know how to download books from libby to my Mac? I was recently listening to the Dune audiobook. As soon as I started book 3, the loan expired and returned itself. I am back to the 8-week wait list to get the book again. Is there anyway that, in the future, I can just rip the ebooks to something like Calibre? Or anyway to download audiobooks?

Subject: Downloading to a Hard Drive Connected to a Router
Hello! I currently have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro which I have upgraded with a Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SSD. I download files to my computer utilizing a VPN (on my computer- not the router), then either transfer the files to my MyCloud Home for immediate viewing or an external hard drive for the future (after seeding for a while- of course). I am concerned that I am going to wear out my internal hard drive prematurely with all the re-writes I am doing.
I have a cheaper SSD that I would like to connect to my router (TP-Link Archer A7) via USB, then set that up as my default download drive. My question is, will I still get the same protection from the VPN if the destination folder is not on the computer? The Archer A7 only has a USB 2.0 port, but I max out at about 130 Mbps through my VPN, so the write speeds should be high enough to not bottleneck the downloads or uploads. I do not want to connect the hard drive directly to my computer because it is a laptop and moves around the house.
Is what I want to do feasible? By selecting a different hard drive as the download folder am I saving my internal hard drive from excessive writes? Any other suggestions?
Thanks everyone!

Subject: Now that some albums like Jungle's Sunshine Stereo are released exclusively Apple Music, how will people pirate them?
I remember a couple of years ago "Mobdro" was a thing and could cast to TV, but I uninstalled it cos there was a security concern with it I think.
What are the options now/or is it trustworthy? Ideally cast from Android but could do Kodi plugin on Nvidia Shield?

Subject: I feel like im behind in piracy as of late. New(er) methods to pirating?
I have an extra Pi 4 laying around and an 12tb HDD so i was thinking of making a seedbox of sorts. But im still downloading torrents by going to 1337, pirate, etc. and clicking away. sometimes i just pick category movies, type in '2021' and download the list.. It works but there must be a better way these days? Like 'sniffers' that watch a torrent sites movie recent uploads? package torrent releases, etc..

Subject: Does downloading off of soap2day get you in trouble?
I’m not very knowledgeable in the art of pirating, and was wondering if using a site like soap2day to download movies/tv shows for free could get me in trouble.
By the way, I’m not using a vpn, but am thinking of getting Nord VPN.
