Subject: Looking for old book
Hello all, I'm looking for an old book which I can't seem to find anywhere except for $500 online. Anybody know where a free copy is? 100% understandable if not since it's not that popular.
Name of book: The Elephant Hunters of the Lado ( I don't support poaching don't worry )
Author: W. Robert Foran
Thanks for any help.
Subject: Using piracy to deal with mental health - I need your help
Hello brothers in arms, I have a quick question.
I am trying to end the life-long struggle of having social anxiety. I cannot afford therapist, nor taking an online course - so I am wearing a black hat now for a minute and I am trying to get it.
There were messages about it everywhere online that there is a TORRENT - but I am not capable of digging enough.
This course is a CBT method for ending social anxiety and I need to find it.
I tried finding via: torrenthistory.org and there are shitloads of the torrent archives with the names of the exact same torrent - but I just found out that the links from that site doesn't lead anywhere.
Is there any way I could find it? I tried google and some pirate bay but that's all to my knowledge.
Thank you for any advice and help!
The name of it the course.. well fck it's: Overcoming social anxiety step by step by Thomas A. Richards (there are some ebooks because it's the name of the book - but it is also a program with tapes, handouts and etc.). Dear Thomas, if you are reading this I just want to let you know that I love the work you are doing but there is no way I am spending 80% of my monthly wage for online program. Sorry, tough times here in Eastern Europe.

Subject: safest way to send an anime file to a friend in another state?
My friend does not torrent and that's perfectly fine. I have never been on the giving end, only the receiving when it comes to torrents. I don't really want to distribute things especially online.
Is there anything 100% full proof by uploading some .WebM files of an anime so that he can download it? Or do I have to ship him a USB? 😅

Subject: Well, it’s true…
Subject: I had one of the most clear examples of why we need piracy at least as an option
TL:DR; Steaming services suck. Piracy has disadvantages too but it's way, way more convenient.
I've lived alone for little over 3 years. One of my most treasured possessions and something that has been giving value over and over again is my setup of a 20Tb NAS along with a Plex Server which I've been using exclusively instead of all the paid subscriptions. No monthly micropayments that slowly take away from my budget, no geoblocking, no timed exclusives. Once I download a show it's mine forever and if I really want to compensate the creators and producers there's always merch and DVDs.
This was working perfectly because I had this system for myself and am perfectly fine with searching for torrents and rips on the internet. This is until I decided with my GF for her to move in with me, and she likes watching movies and series as much as me. We watched through most of my favs, some movies she requested which I downloaded without any hitch but we soon found two disadvantages for the pirate life: 1) we are native spanish speakers and while she does understand english it's kinda difficult to her so we always use subtitles and 2) some shows/movies it's very difficult to download because there's no sources/they're not popular enough.
Plex has a neat option for adding an agent to look for subtitles from popular websites (like OpenSubtitles) which works like 95% of the time but sometimes it doesn't, like when the website goes into maintenance mode or the subtitle we need is simply not available in our language. This gets kinda frustrating because I have to go the computer, google the SRT file and manually upload it, sometimes it's offset by some seconds (which you can also manually control in Plex, but still, more work) and sometimes the subtitles just don't exist.
This was especially painful when she asked me to download the classic Digimon Adventures series and CardCaptor Sakura which are her childhood favourites and while I found the complete Sakura series, there's just literally no options for spanish subtitles. None whatsoever. As for Digimon, I could only find the latest movies and some episodes of the latest series but the torrents are dead or inactive. I know there are some other alternatives to torrents but I right now just can't deal with learning them and I need something that "just works"
So I caved in and signed up for a Crunchyroll account. Luckily there's a 14 day trial and maybe we can watch everything by then but I feel like that's a subscription that's gonna be a permanent one because her eyes literally lit up when she saw all the options and that alone is worth it.
Now came the moment of mutual realization. Until yesterday we've been enjoying everything local, full HD, no buffering and no limits. Yesterday we started watching the 2020 Digimon series (because even with all the streaming services, there's no way to watch the original Digimon that aired in the 90's. Points for piracy) and as soon as I hit play on the long awaited series, we where hit by a 2 minute long advertisement inside Crunchyroll promoting all their different subscription tiers. Then came the mid-roll ads. Pause the show for a bathroom break? More ads. Her frustration was immediate and I dreaded having a smarmy attitude but I couldn't help myself from commenting "See, this is why I like pirating stuff. It's all bullshit anyways". To my relief she completely agreed and thankfully this didn't stop us from enjoying the moments but still, the difference was crystal clear.
Sorry for the long story but I felt like sharing and hopefully others find this also amusing

Subject: Alternative/modded Netflix client?
Not sure if it's slightly off topic but I'm giving this service a last chance before cutting the streaming-cord and putting my pirate hat back...
The content is getting worse by the day, stuff getting removed more frequently, I only keep my subscription because of the Mrs
Meanwhile while I'm still stuck with it some issues really becoming annoying and discouraged me from using it.
-autoplay, that damned autoplay that even when disabled some clients simply ignore it (android tv, Samsung tv etc) Just trying to browse content and find new stuff gets irritating
-subtitles, I have slight vision impairment and Netflix subtitles are downright terrible, they are rather small and have a almost non existent dropshadow/outline that make them very hard to see in brighter backgrounds, changing sizes look terrible in tv versions of netflix app and take up a ridiculous amount of screen estate
The default Android (mobile) app seems to obey the disabled autoplay and actually renders proper sized subtitles with decent outline
So the question is: any alternative clients/mods/methods out there for TVs that make the Netflix experience less painful?

Subject: I want to upload a textbook's pdf to libgen
i've never really uploaded anything there since most books i've used were already pirated, but there's some textbooks that i needed that weren't on libgen or any other book piracy site i looked into. i borrowed them from an aquiantance and turned them into pdfs. they're pretty expensive so i want others to have access to them as well.
i'm not a tech expert at all though and don't know if there are any privacy type risks with uploading stuff on libgen, what i should be careful with, or even how to do it. i'd appreciate any warning/advice you might have for me!!

Subject: Should a Hybrid release have a higher bitrate than the 4kuhd BD rip ?
Hi can someone explain why hybrid releases dont have higher bitrates than the 4k remux (.mkv) or the file of a ripped 4kUHD (.m2ts).
For instance take this complete UHD rip..
Disc Title: Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood – 4K Ultra HD
Disk label: Once.upon.a.Time.in.Hollywood.2019.COMPLETE.UHD.BLURAY
Disc Size: 95,530,633,216 bytes
Extras: Ultra HD, BD-Java
Length: 2:41:29.679 (h:m:s.ms)
Size: 86,014,230,528 bytes
Total Bitrate: 71.02 Mbps
|MPEG-H HEVC Video||55969 kbps||2160p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / Main 10 @ Level 5.1 @ High / 10 bits / HDR10 / BT.2020|
Compare this to hybrid release.
File size........: 66.5 GiB
Duration........: 2 h 41 min 29 s 703 ms
Format..........: HEVC Main 10@L5.1@High V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC HDR10
BitRate: 56.0 Mb/s
So if the Hybrid combines the M2ts file with the Dolby Vision profile off of the streaming release (I assume apple tv or amazon prime?) then why doesnt the hybrid release have a higher bitrate than the untouched 4k BD rip? Is the PQ of an m2ts file from a release in which the studio did not include DV always going to be superior to a hybrid release with the added DV layer?
I would really appreciate an explainer here. thanks again everyone.
Subject: Is there anywhere to burn DVD ISO's that include all the extras?
There are several companies who I boycott for a variety of reasons. I'd prefer not to get into who or why, as it's not realivent. Is there anywhere I can burn DVD ISO's that include all of the special features and behind the scenes stuff? Im a real Luddite. I love putting physical DVD's in machines, and because I'm such a film nerd, I adore all the behind the scenes stuff and bonus content. Anywhere I can get a straight ISO, ads, special features, and all, to burn to a blank DVD? Please have it be DVD as I don't really own a Blu ray player, and Blu rays almost lack all the good special features anyway. Thanks to anyone who can help
