Governor DeSantis and his merry band of social revisionists are absolutely right. By pandering to the worst in the underclass of hate and bigotry and keeping the purifying light of children’s education hidden in the dark recesses of racism, he has made his point.
That point, you ask? There is no question, but that Rosa Parks was a criminal. She had the temerity to break long-established law, a law enacted by the voters of Georgia (who were permitted to vote) to keep public transportation white-washed and sacrosanct.
By keeping any mention of her and her crimes minimalized or at least discredited, it will keep her memory from serving as an example of what conclusions impressionable youth might draw and protect them from becoming radicalized and inclined toward anarchy. To protect these tykes, her name should be scrubbed from the history textbooks, when feasible.
These laws were enacted to protect, not punish, just ask any Klu Klux Klan member.
In a further attempt to keep the kiddies protected from any mention of the damaging effects of history, all mentions of the horrors of slavery should be exorcized, as well.
The recitation of such history can be an upsetting affair. To recall instances of lynching, voter suppression – laws prohibiting teaching black people to read and write, that people were held in inescapable bondage, where their children were taken away from parents – these things can be traumatic to developing minds; best keep them as segregated and uninformed as their ancestors.
If these horrors are not taught in school, within a few generations they never happened. So, keep the history books sanitized, the children barefoot and pregnant, to stretch a metaphor, and let them grow in woeful ignorance and become the inevitable laughingstock of an educated nation.
