Subject: Super PAC-MAN

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I downloaded the new core, went to run it and all I’m getting is a black screen. I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and what to do about it. Thanks!

Subject: Getting an Edimax EW-7811UN *v2* WiFi dongle to work with MisterFPGA

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just went through this painful process myself, so I wanted to both share that the dongle mentioned in the title is compatible with MisterFPGA (as is the case with v1, but that one works right out of the box) and how to get it to work.

Note 1: The below instructions require you to connect your MisterFPGA to a LAN you can access with your computer and to have SSH access enabled on your MisterFPGA, since the instructions given by the creator of the repo mentioned below don't seem to work without it. It mentions that doing this by mounting the SD card should work too, but it didn't for me.

Note 2: Using an FTP client, as described in the instructions, gave me issues (i.e. for some reason it didn't allow me to upload the required file through the UI), so I used SSH instead.

Note 3: The instructions below were written for a Mac, but it should work on a Windows PC too, using PuTtY for example.

  1. Go to this GIT repo and download the .ko file mentioned there;
  2. SSH into your MisterFPGA (make sure this feature is enabled by running the pre-installed "SSH_ON" script through the OSD of your mister);
  3. Copy the .ko you just downloaded into the "/lib/modules/4.19.0-socfpga-r1/" folder;(on mac*, open a terminal and type "scp /[path to folder that contains the .ko file]/8188eu.ko root@[ip of your mister]:/lib/modules/4.19.0-socfpga-r1/", changing the placeholder data to match your own setup);*
  4. Follow the last installation step described in the repo.

Don't forget to follow the standard steps to setup your Wifi connection as described here.

Edit: for those interested in buying one of these, I got mine here for less than 9€ shipped.

Subject: How to install JCHOISE.EXE and setup Gamepad in AO486

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am running total DOS and tried my first game MK. I setup the gamepade inputs on the OSD but the core wont respond to any gamepad inputs only OSD is working and the keyboard.

Do i have to install JCHOISE and how?

Do i have to setup the Gamepad in the Game itself oder in the core?

Subject: Usb Hub/DE10 Y Cable

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm completing my MiSTer build and just in the process of tidying up all the internal cables (I've installed the boards in a mini ITX case).

I've cut off the jack on the Y cable that takes power to the DE10 and USB hub boards and wired them on to a metal barrel jack that I intend to mount directly onto the metal ITX case.

The negative terminal is on the body of the jack, which makes the entire jack itself negative. Once I fit the jack to the metal ITX case, the ITX case will be negative as well.

Is this safe? DE10 to USB hub cable

Subject: Questions regarding customizing and themes on interface

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm very new to MiSTer project and the FPGA community in general, just started reading up on it, purchased materials to build my own, and generally I'm very excited about the project and the community behind it.

I am curious about how customizable things such as the main interface is. Is it possible to add background images, change typeface or the overall visual design, similar to how you can switch themes on a Retropie.

While I have little knowledge in code, I am a professional illustrator and graphic designer/motion graphics animator, and I was wondering how with my skills I could contribute to the community, be it through background images, or anything visual art related.

Subject: SD Card Longevity

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi all! I’ve been thinking about how long my original SD card (a Samsung Evo 256GB micro SD) will last for my MiSTer. So far, no problems in almost two years. How often do I need to put everything on a new SD card and start over? I intend to keep my MiSTer for a LONG time, and I want to make sure it stays perfect.

For the record, all my Everdrive packs, downloaded roms and saves are backed up on several external HDs.
