Subject: Mister repairs

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Does anyone know of anyone, ideally UK based, who would be able to repair a damaged USB hub? I've broken the end off the mini USB cable which goes into the de10 nano and it seems wasteful to buy a whole new USB board if the cable can be replaced. Obviously would be willing to pay and can provide photos if needed

Subject: YPbPr sync issue. Know of a workaround, but need help implementing.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

YPbPr output from my MiSTer is set correctly, and works. YPbPr enabled, composite sync, and the SoG switch are set properly. Using the analog port with VGA to component cables. The issue is my TV handling sync.

It needs a slightly higher sync level than what the MiSTer outputs, and until it gets a bright screen, it suffers from a rolling un-synced diagonal image.

When I load into the NES core (grey background on boot), or ANY game with a bright title screen, sync locks and everything works great. I can play games, and image clarity is phenomenal.

There's a work-around to a hardware sync level that can't be changed, that will allow me to load up each console core with sync; autobooting a rom that's just a solid colour.

What I need help with is creating a homebrew rom for each of the console cores that just boots a solid colour and nothing else. This will get me into the core menu where I can then see what I'm doing to load the desired game.

I have no experience with rom hacks or homebrew, but I'm hopeful that it would be trivial to do with the right directions/resources (or if I'm really lucky, by someone who has some free time).

Thanks!

This issue was posted about on the GitHub last year and closed without solution because it's extremely uncommon and it can't be fixed in software.

Subject: What controllers do you recommend for MiSTer arcade cores that don’t originally use joysticks?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’m thinking about what specialized controllers to try out for games that don’t use a traditional joystick setup. I’ve seen lots of people build those usb spinners, but personally, I don’t have a lot of time to tinker so I would prefer to get off the shelf controllers to give me more time to actually play!

I’ve got a raphnet ps1 adapter on the way to use with my Namco Volume controller and Negcon, so that should have me covered for games with a spinner and analogue steering.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good off the shelf usb trackball and what cores a trackball would be good for? I know the Japanese mega drive version of marble madness supports mouse controls, so that would be a good fit until we have an arcade core for that one.

I’m also wondering what cores might benefit from a trigger style joystick or twin joysticks and if it’s worth trying to find a ready made controller for that at this point.

Please share your suggestions and what favorite games you use them with!

Subject: Hard time finding 32mb SDRam

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am making a cheaper MiSTer build and looking online all I find is 128mb SDRam now. Anyone have a spare 32mb SDRam they want to sell or know where to grab one online?

Subject: SNAC Adapter suggestions?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Good Evening,

Well my Super Grafx is failing me, and it has broken my heart. I am at the point now where I feel the best move is just to pack up my original consoles and go MiSTer exclusive.

I love my MiSTer, but it doesn't feel the same to me without the original controllers. I am looking to go all in with SNAC from Atari 2600 to Neo Geo. Can someone point me in the right direction? I see a few different solutions but not sure what to purchase, or from who. If it helps I live in North America and would like to have plenty of controller cord length.

Thanks for the help!

Subject: Would a 5:4 aspect ratio monitor work well with MiSTer?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a 1280×1024 vga CRT monitor I picked up off the side of the road a while ago, and I've been very happy with it on my PC. However, being a 5:4 ratio, I was wondering if a MiSTer could accurately display 4:3 games on this monitor, with the correct pixel sizes and aspect ratio. Any help would be appreciated!

Subject: Roguelikes that can be played with arcade controls?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Are there any good roguelikes that can be played on Mister with a fightstick type (8-way + 8-button) control?

My favorite is Brogue, which has a linux ncurses version which would be fine with me, but the controls really need a mouse and keyboard.

It wouldn’t matter to me if the answer came via a console core, ao486, or even the linux framebuffer.

Subject: LXDE on MiSTer through RGB?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A couple of questions about the Linux LXDE install for Mister:

  • Is this is only/latest release of LXDE? I can't find anything else except this page which has the exact same info.
  • Can I run LXDE through my RGB into my CRT? The distribution page talks about resolutions etc. what would I need to do to get this working in 480i on my CRT?

Thanks

Subject: Possible to build MISTer with add on boards in a flat configuration?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I'm an original console collector. The past few days I've been looking for a neo geo aes or MVS board to consolize but heard the neo geo core is great on the mister and would actually cost probably less even with the USB hub, I/o, and ram modules.

I'm weird though and don't want a mister built in the stackedconfiguration . I know a mister multi console system is in the works but I'm impatient lol and no clue when its coming out.

I'm wanting to build my mister system to fit in an acrylic case designed to house a neo geo MVS arcade board .....

https://shop.lions3.com/products/top-bottom-plates-for-neo-geo-mv1c

Is it possible to build out a mister with the PCB boards laid flat side by side? I don't know if any ribbon cables have been made to remotely place the individual boards. I could always solder extension leads or make a pinned harness. My plan is to 3d print a custom interface wall on the front of the case and use short USB extensions to have USB/controller ports on the front of the console case. I believe the de10 nano also has jumper pins for remote locating buttons so I could locate these to the front as well.

Would there be any issues or obstacles doing something like this?

Subject: Neo Geo controller options

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Almost sold on a mister. I'm either buying a neo geo AES, a consoled neo geo MVS, or buying a mister setup and installing in an acrylic neo geo MVS case. Was ready to start buying mister parts but read snac doesn't support neo geo controllers yet.

I have tons of emulation setups including a sweet custom 4 player launchbox arcade cab I recently rebuilt but all my emulation options collect dust honestly.

It just doesn't feel right to me unless I have the original controller in my hand connected to original hardware.

I've wanted a neo geo forever and been slowly checking off systems on my list and now is time for some snk action.

Part of me wants an AES, part of me wants an MVS, and part of me thinks FPGA is the future so might as well put a mister in an acrylic MVS case and route some USB controller sockets and a power switch but what options do I currently have neo geo controler-wise without having to go into some crazy custom scripting etc?

I think someone mentioned a neo geo x controller would work. I've never seen or used one so not sure how the quality is on them. I'm sure they could probably be upgraded with a sanwa stick and simetsu buttons but never looked into it. Is that the only option? What about the neo geo CD style pads? I know the originals probably can't be used but what about the mini version? Are 2 players supported?

I'd like to also maybe run PC engine core, are 8bitdo wireless controllers supported?

Thanks

Subject: Connecting a MiSTer to a Mac using Ethernet

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’m trying to connect my MiSTer to my MacBook using a direct ethernet cable, DHCP and FTP. In the MacIntosh’s network settings the connection shows up with an IP address (but the status is yellow) but no IP address shows up on the MiSTer. The information page for the MiSTer displays “no network.”

I have no problems with FTP over WiFi, but I want higher transfer speeds.

I’ve tried several verified cables. I’ve turned on FTP on the MiSTer and reset the MiSTer MAC address.

Ideas?

Thanks.
