Subject: 2nd player wireless controllers and other issues in Mister...is it the power supply??

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a Mister with Digital IO board and USB hub powered through the Digital IO board with the DC jumper connecting the power to the DE-10 Nano and the USB port. I have a Triad 4 amp power supply bought from zerohimself at misterkits.com. I believed this was the proper way to power up this unit, but I'm starting to have doubts that you can fully power USB devices via the HUB without adding a SECOND power supply and DC splitter instead of the DC jumper connecting the DE-10 Nano and USB port.

Here's my evidence and the problem I am having: Controller inputs are missing on occasion. One player Bluetooth (via USB adapter) or USB daemonbite adapters work fine standing alone. But if a second player joins, both Bluetooth and USB daemonbite will have missing inputs. Since I am using two different controller connectors and having the same result, this suggests to me that it is insufficient power. Further, I have both an MT-32 Pi Hat and an MT-32 PI Mini. If I plug in either of these devices then I get missing controller inputs even when playing 1 player games - yes I am plugging this Pi Hat in the correct way as I know many people don't get the right USB cable or plug it into the powered USB port.

I'm willing to power up my Mister with another power supply and just have this rig require two Triad 4 amp power supplies. I'm not thrilled, but I can't seem to think of any other reason why this could be happening on my Mister. I do not want to use wired controllers so please do not suggest that; even if that solves the problem I'm not interested in wired controllers.

As of now, I can't use my Mister for 2 player games at all and this really sucks.

Subject: newest PSX core - having trouble loading lots of games

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Ever since getting the newest PSX core, most games I’m trying get some sort of error or won’t work correctly. The same games still work fine with the unstable version of the core I have still from earlier this year. I’m up to date on the core.

I first noticed with Einhander which gets to a memory screen then I cannot proceed. “No Game Data” “X Check”

I can proceed past this check on the unstable core

Most commonly, like with Fantastic Nights Dreams, I get either an ED or EE in the top left. Red letters white box. The same games load in the unstable core

I’ve placed an empty.mcd media/fat/saves/PSX and deleted any .sav files that were there already in case there was some incompatibility between unstable and current.

I’ve tried both .chd and .bin .cue

Some games load fine - Fighting Force is an example

Any ideas what may be happening?

Subject: Remote Play possible?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Is remote play a feature that could possibly be added to the MiSTer? I spent the weekend setting up remote play for my PC, Xbox and PS5 on my upstairs TV and was thinking how cool it would be to have remote play for MiSTer. While it kind of defeats the purpose since it would introduce lag, would still work in a pinch for a quick session.

Subject: Any way to add another region of an arcade game?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I'm not tech savvy at all with the mister, but curious if there is an easy way for end users like me to add other regions of an arcade board? Specifically I'm thinking about Hyper SF2 Anniversary Edition. Recently became aware that the Japanese version doesn't have bugged AI and it would be really nice to play that version on the MISTER but it currently isn't available.

Guessing this is way more involved than I think it is and it's the sort of thing Jotego would have to do.

Subject: Suddenly LAN connection not working properly.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I’m usually fully hardwired into my LAN but today for some reason it’s solid green light and not showing a network or network connection. I’ve rebooted a million times but doesn’t seem to do anything and oddly enough my wifi dongle which is my backup is also struggling to connect. I managed to get it to connect and run update all once but the problem is persisting and as I’m usually using Cifs this is a big problem. Any tips on how I can try toggling lan off and on on the device ? Or anything that I can do

Subject: Does power via HDMI damage mister?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi, my HDMI lead is sending power to my Mister even when it's switched off at the mains. Is this going to cause any problems/danger to the Mister? I have my desktop pc and mister plugged into the same monitor so if my monitor is on there are lights on the mister's ethernet port too even though it's switched off.

Subject: PSX core - best way to achieve composite blending in 240p?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have my mister hooked up to a PVM via HDMI to VGA and a VGA-component convertor. With these settings, video filters are disabled. The genesis core (and by extension the 32x) has a great composite blend for games like sonic 3D blast and kolibri that rely heavily on dithering for its art style. There are some PSX games like Valkyrie Profile that do the same, but no comparable setting.

Subject: Some noob question from my first two nights

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Couple of questions i’m hoping others can answer.

  1. Im getting a white screen when launching any rom for Neo Geo, the roms load super quick as well, has anyone seen this?
  2. I have to reconnect my Switch Pro controller to bluetooth every time I boot up, is this normal?
  3. ill be moving to my LG CX when my io board comes in, are there recommended settings for that TV?
  4. i have it set via ini to 1080p currently, yet my monitor is reporting 720p, am I missing something? The information screen has the same 1280x720 listed there.

Subject: Yesterday was the first time I actually played a retro game in years

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I've been into emulation for years, ever since the Raspberry Pi was released. I've always had a lot of games for my Retropie, but I've never beat a single one.

Yesterday, my wife took my kid and my mother in law to a doctor's appointment, and I fired up the Mister and played Castlevania Symphony of the Night for four hours! It's the first time in years that I devote that much time to a retro game, and I think it has to do with the fact that it feels SO much like playing on the original console as opposed to a Raspberry Pi that just feels like a gimmick of sorts.

I am so glad I finally decided to get the Mister.

Edit: what I meant to say was that with Retropie I played a few minutes of a game and then jump to another game, play a few minutes of that and then go to another, ad infinitum.
