Seriously... two different accounts connected but not logged in, both from different ISPs in Moskva, in 10 minutes. Because Russia doesn't give a shit about crimes like this...
Could the Russians have been fucking with our elections? Sure. But, more likely they were trying to see if there was some angle where they could make money from cyber crime - if you ask me. That is what motivates them. They could give a fuck about international diplomatic bullshit. They're all trying to make a buck by doing something illegal - because no one comes looking for them as long as they're not fucking it up for some OTHER more powerful Russian. They can do just about anything they want.
They're actually, possibly, the last free people on the planet... or at least, the most free. Within a certain lens, anyhow.
I did a port scan back on both of them - and they both disconnected.
Listen, Comrade - if I show you mine, you have to show me yours. Da?
Gee, kinda reminds me of one of my customers at The Dragon's Den, back in the eighties, who spoke Russian. He was wild for technology, and had a wide screen TV back then, and pirated Sci-fi movies that hadn't been released yet, on discs or tapes. I remember being fascinated by the rear-projection screen and three different colored projectors that made it work.he had a plurality, if not majority share is a big name Sacramento photo shop, since he had been doing IT work for them and had been seriously injured enough to end up in a wheelchair. He sued them and won a judgement so big that they couldn't pay, and they offered him a share in the business. I still remember him saying "DOS Vadanya" as he left with his hundred copy bundle of X-Men comics each month. He had a racing wheelchair, and could beat me from the parking lot of the apartments where he lived to his front door, including several turns!
Sounds like an interesting dude. Just reading this, Jerry - I think you're going to be much happier with the community here in Citadelphia - and I really recommend you expand your visits from just my BBS, now that you seem to have it figured out, to uncensored.citadel.org. You'll find more kindred souls over there. In fact, I've missed your posts since I quit Facebook, but I find the group of interesting folks over at Uncensored a very close substitute. They're classic Citadel users talking about classic Citadel things.
This room having a message in it made me see that picture up above - and I am surprised that after seeing that post, no one wanted to talk about:

Not trying to advocate autism in this posting, but I think I am missing the point. Is this a tarpit for russian bride merchadising? I am thinking I have missed the inside joke.

Nah. I was seeing a lot of attacks from Russia in my logs... and I was making fun of them.
If we're going to have Russians visit the board, I'd prefer the one in the pictures above.
And I was amazed nobody asked, "Who is THAT..." when I posted the image of her.
She *should* be the next big thing... but she is Russian, so she probably won't be. And... time may be running out for her. She might start to get "handsome" in the next 10 years or so.

Yes, I get the same in my logs, lots of geoip goes back to the Soviet Union (notice I didn't bother to use the word "former")
I set up a tarpit on my citadel, I want to see if the scrapers cause any activity upticks. I read somewhere that the recent russia organized cybercrime and ransomware attacks (pipeline for example) skipped over systems that had Russian language content. I dont care if my system is attacked, I will only lose 8 hours worth of content (read: little to none) if I have to drop a good image back in place of a hijacked one.
Let's see what happens.
Disclaimer:
i think we should be friends, not frenemies or even enemies with russia. they have stuff we want/need
(ever see Mars Needs Women?)
and we have stuff they want/need
Agreed about being friends with Russia. Not only that - but I think they're actually living a culture closer to our ideals than we are - and they are far more aware that the biggest existential threat to their independence is not the USA, but *is* China.
Seriously - watch "To the Lake" a Russian bio-apocalypse series in Netflix.

I agree. There's no reason we should be allied in any way with China as presently constituted, they're awful. Russia is much smarter than them, and live better ideals, and are more easily western-friendly. Putin is a horrid person but an amazingly excellent president. He's smart and capable and VERY savvy. I really appreciated how he stopped World War 3 back in Sept 2013. I think that if we enlisted his aid, we could end the CCP and North Korea.
I saw someone post that international geopolitics is a lot like the resource strategy combat games. The problem with aligning with Russia to defeat a dominant China is - it probably is the only viable move... and it is a likely alliance because both sides should see the inevitability of "We'll both lose against this adversary unless we pool resources..."
The trick is to come out on the other side ready for your former ally to put a knife in your back when they see the opportunity to become the sole power once the present threat is removed.
Which happens in all those games - including Risk!... someone has to win in the end.

After we kicked their ass Japan loves us because we treated them as an ally and built the relationship. I don't see why Russia shouldn't be the same in 50 years. If they end up twisting the knife, I'm not sure I would blame them or even be mad, if they're at a point where they're more free than we are. Freedom = Good, Authoritarianism = Evil.
The Japanese are different about defeat and honor than Russia, though. It is worth noting that the Germans and Japan still have a uniquely close cultural comfort with one another too...
Japan has great admiration as a national identity for *smart* nations, for reserved nations, and for industrious nations. The truth about Japan and America is they have a simultaneous attraction and revulsion to our culture - and I think the revulsion is growing faster than the attraction.
This probably is the case for England/The UK too.
Russian culture is actually remarkably like the "basket of deplorables" culture - as far as I can see. It is a nation of entitled urban sophisticates who consider themselves superior and poor, hard working, but not necessarily well educated rural folks who have complete contempt for the urbanites - and almost entirely "white".

I honestly don't know enough about russian culture, but I'm confident we can find enough in common to make it work long enough to take care of China
Russian culture is crazy. First off - It goes from what was East Berlin all the way to the Far Eastern Coast, and from the Far North all the way down into Southern Asia and the edge of the Middle East. So the ethnic and cultural diversity in insane almost on the level of the United States. But, it is an ancient Medieval region too, it has insane geography, and it was ruled for decades under Communism - with a strong effort on forcing a monolithic Mother Russia culture on the entire population across their wide diversity. Lots of people who grew up their entire lives under the Communist regime are still alive today, too - and secular capitalism has arguably been more effective at killing religion in Russia than Communism ever was.
I studied the language, a long time ago - but I'm no expert on the nation, though. We do have a lot in common - but in a bizarro way.
