[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi there,

Are the 3 USB ports specifically numbered? This is in relation to the gamepad mapping screen, Port 1 and Port 2.

Thank you.

Andy.

Subject: Does a guide for using a scope when troubleshooting exist?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have a 4000 that has a green screen. I've done everything you can think of in troubleshooting. Cpu cards, memory slots, checked traces etc etc. I don't really need the basic tips for this. I'm at the point that one of the chips must be bad (Bridgette for example). What I need is to be able to start using a scope to look for suspect signals. Does such a thing exist? I don't want to start replacing expensive chips until it starts working. That's not ideal.

Thanks.

Subject: Amiga A500 with TF536 - SLOOOOW IDE

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hello,

I have been fighting with my A500 to get it running with the upgrades that I had ordered for it. One of those upgrades is a Terriblefire TF536. I am very happy with it so far. CPU is fast, TONS of memory, and I am able to boot to Amiga OS from SD card using the onboard IDE. One thing I have noticed is that the IDE appears very slow. I am using an IDE to SD card adapter. OS is Amiga OS 3.2.1 DH0 - is using FFS International. Speeds are around 366,000. DH1 - is using a different FS. I forget which I used but it says Not a DOS disk in sysinfo. This partition can get up to near 800,000k on a good day.

Is this normal speeds for IDE on this accelerator and an A500? If not does anyone have any ideas for what I can try to speed it up? Looking at the TF board it appears you can solder on some chips to add buffering, so I guess my card has no buffering. Well if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Subject: A500 mini - your thoughts on it

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Not sure if it’s okay to post here as it’s not really an Amiga, but the A500 mini sub-Reddit is dead.

So the A500 mini has been out for around six months and I would imagine those who are going to buy one will have got one by now so I wondered about peoples thoughts on it…

Positives -

It does look very neat in front of my television, easily portable.

Loading whdload files is pretty easy.

Decent interface.

Very nostalgic.

Controller isn’t as bad as I expected! Mouse is good though.

Negatives-

Had to get a replacement after the first one bricked, which seems to be not unusual.

Whdload files seem to randomly stop working, mostly CD32 ones funnily enough. I also find I can’t use save states on whdload files.

The emulation can be a bit hit and miss, a number of games run faster than expected.

Overall, I play on it quite a bit still and do enjoy it.It would have been lovely to be able to emulate other Amigas like the A4000 which you can with Amiga Forever but I guess that’s not realistic for an off the shelf plug and play device.

I’m not sure it would prompt me to buy an A500 Maxi, if one ever materialised, but we’ll see.

Your thoughts?

Subject: RGB/ vga out from emulator to Crt?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Can I just use an hdmi to vga adapter on my PC and just route this into my OSSC's vga input, and then connect from there into my CRT's rgb scart input? I have an a500 but the lack of a good gamepad and responsive mouse limits fun gameplay at the moment.

Subject: I need a new accelerator for my Amiga 500: Which should I get?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I have an Amiga 500 (PAL) that I love, but recently my accelerator has stopped working and I'm looking for a new one and I need some help.

I'd like:

-IDE or CF card hard drive support

-at least 8MB ram

-preferably at least 25-33mhz

What models of accelerator should I be looking for? I'd like to stay under $200 USD if at all possible.

I've also noticed most Amiga shops are EU based, but I live in the United States. Is there anywhere to get one with domestic shipping or do I need to go international? I would be open to buying one secondhand off another Amiga owner, but I'm not sure where to find one.
