Subject: Yes, this must have been asked before! Emulators!

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi folks,

Before you shout at me, I did a search (Best Emulator) and got nothing!!!

So, which is the best emulator for a novice with no idea what is what? I want to run the OS and ADF files with an HHD Image to install the software.

Please help an old fool out, any help at all, as I said I am a complete novice!

Help with setting would be nice too!

P.S. I am dyslexic and rely on the spell checker, there may also be some homophones!

Anybody got any Cynostic PD disks?

Many years ago (93/94?), I wrote a game with a mate over a weekend. we released it and it ended up on a Cynostic PD disk. Scored a whopping 59% but I'd love to get my hands on it again, for old times sake... Featured in the PD section of CU Amiga magazine, Issue 42.

Subject: Email trunk software for MaxsBBS (possibly called Frontier mail)

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Many years ago, I used to run a BBS on an amiga called Frontier BBS based in the Midlands, UK. It ran on the MaxsBBS software. I wrote a plugin for it in AMOS which allowed the dialing up and down the UK to pass messages back and forth. kind of a crude email delivery system. rather than dial everyone, it just dialed your nearest neighboring BBS to save of call costs. It was a moderate success with about 20-30 copies of the software being sold in the UK. There was a free demo version also available but I've had a look around for it on places like Aminet but never seen it. Does it ring any bells with anyone or anyone have any leads on it?

Subject: Modmancer Radio

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Apologies as not completely Amiga related, but not sure where else to mention it.

Does anyone remember Modmancer Radio? It was an online radio that went down probably around 2012ish at a bit of a wild guess, but I still think about it quite often. They had a slot specifically for Amiga tunes. They didn't play anything that some other stations like Rainwave or OCR probably didn't already have, but for some reason I always liked to tune in to their selection of music, I think they had a smaller pool but it felt more focused as a result. I first found it when I got my first job, so I'd often come home and play it for a bit through WinAmp after to chill out. It's how I found a lot of music that I'd never heard through playing the games directly, and they also included a lot of cracktro music, plus a few remixes. Most of it I've been able to find since (Virgill - Interference was one that gave me the runaround for years), but there are a few tracks I've never been able to find since the station went down. I did try and find a full tracklist after it went, but sadly couldn't find anything and got no responses in my attempts to contact people. Partial versions of the site are still available via the Wayback Machine but nothing of use other than nostalgia.

The only other slots I remember was a SID-focused timeslot, and one around later periods like N64/PSX music. But felt like Amiga music made up a good chunk of the schedule. They had a lot of issues with downtime relating to the software they were using, which only got worse towards the end and I'm assuming that's why they just wound up giving in.

Anyway - I'm know there were/are other stations doing the same thing, but for some reason Modmancer was the one that stuck with me and I just wanted to take a moment to remember it and the tunes it introduced me to. Did anyone else listen to them, or want to share any memories of other since lost stations?

Subject: I'm looking for a picture of a small plastic mouse lens attachment that was given away with a UK magazine (maybe CU Amiga?). You attached it to the side of your mouse with velcro and it had a crosshair for tracing artwork. It was as useless as it sounds and wasn't mentioned anywhere in the issue.

Subject: experience with recapping through retropassion?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

has anyone ever had their services with recapping? I sent my a2000 board and PSU to them in January and got slow responses until June, when they said it would be done within the next week. ever since then I have gotten no responses to any messages at all and am beginning to wonder how best to get a hold of them (purchased the service through eBay, contacted them through ebay messaging and on their website), is this is normal? I'm not in any rush but I do wonder how it's going.
