After 2 years of development, Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are proud to announce the immediate availability of Hollywood 10: Xcelicious. Hollywood is a programming language that can be used to create a wide variety of programs, ranging from games and GUI-based applications for desktop systems to mobile apps for Android and iOS. Hollywood's special feature is its support for retro platforms (e.g. AmigaOS, MorphOS, AROS) and modern operating systems (e.g. Windows, macOS, Linux) alike. It comes with a library of over 1000 commands and its functionality can be extended further through over 30 plugins which are available for free download.

Version 10.0 is a major update and comes with many new features. Here is a non-exhaustive list of what's new in Hollywood 10:

  • Almost 100 new commands for lots of new programming fun!
  • Text and font engine is now completely extensible by plugins
  • Support for the macOS arm64 platform (Apple Silicon)
  • Vector text objects are now supported
  • Layers can now be grouped or merged
  • Support for charspacing and linespacing
  • Popup menus (aka context menus) are now supported
  • New serialization modes for the JSON serializer
  • Advanced console functions for creating TUIs
  • Support for filesystem plugins
  • Greatly improved joystick support
  • Support for AmigaInput on AmigaOS 4
  • MagicBeacon and Ranchero support
  • Greatly improved plugin interface with user tags
  • Custom vector brushes can now be used
  • Advanced locale functions like date and number formatting
  • Ready for at least three 10.0-exclusive plugins!
  • Over 100 new pages of PDF documentation, 1272 pages altogether!
  • Lots of other changes, optimizations and bug fixes

Hollywood is the ultimate bridge between all the different AmigaOS compatible platforms and the other three modern desktop systems, Windows, macOS, and Linux! Additionally, Hollywood also supports the Android and iOS platforms. A truly unique feature is the ability to cross-compile native executables for many different platforms including: AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, WarpOS, MorphOS, AROS (x86), Windows (x86, x64), macOS (x86, x64, arm64, ppc), Linux (x86, x64, ppc, arm), and Android/iOS with optionally available add-ons. You don't even have to own these platforms in order to compile executables for them. It's enough to run Hollywood on one of the supported platforms and then compile programs for all the others! Only Hollywood makes it possible. If you want to learn more about Hollywood, please visit the the official Hollywood portal which also has a forum for all questions concerning Hollywood.

Subject: WHDLoad, is there any way to get it onto an amiga without going through WinUAE?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I just installed WB 3.2 on a CF in my A1200 and now I want to set up WHDLoad for it, is there any way to get WHDLoad functionality (extracting LHAs etc.) onto my amiga?

Like the files that need to be installed for it in an adf file or something?

Or do I have to extract the CF card and connect it to my PC and use WinUAE?

Thanks!

Subject: Can anyone help me in mapping an Amiga mouse in to a PS Classic joypad?l in Retroarch?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Hi. I'm trying to play Monkey Island on Retroarch on my PS Classic, but it would be great to use the D-pad and X button as instead of the on-screen mouse controls and left mouse button. Does anyone know how to do this? I believe it should be in the Retroarch options somewhere when playing the game but I messed things up before when trying to change the controls so didn't want to risk it. Thanks!

Subject: Anyone in central London area selling a (preferably broken) amiga 500?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

A friend of mine is in London for the week and it got me thinking; since Amigas tend to be a bit pricey up here in the states, I could maybe get something good in the UK for a considerably lesser price. Problem is most of the Amigas appear to be outside of London. If anyone has a broken Amiga (preferably broken to keep the price down) let me know.

Subject: Vintage Computer Fest coming to NJ - good place for buying Amiga stuff?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I see that there's the Vintage Computer Fest coming on Tax weekend (April 15th) in NJ, USA.

I've never been to one of these. Would it be a good place to purchase Amiga stuff? Specifically - I want to update my Amiga ROMs to 3.2.2 from 3.2.1 and see if there's any other specific parts available.

Being in the USA, I don't know anywhere that has Amiga ROMs for sale w/o needing some shipping costs. So I figured this fest might be the best opportunity to buy stuff like this.

Subject: It's 2023 and I just purchased a new Amiga magazine from Barnes and Noble

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I was in my local Barnes and Noble bookstore (North America) this past weekend and I was happy to see Amiga Addict and Pixel Addict in the magazine racks. I know both have been stocked in UK bookstores but seeing it in a Barnes and Noble in North America put a smile on my face.

I have been ordering copies from the UK so it's great to now have the ability to just drop by my local bookstore to pick up copies.

Subject: What do you use the horsepower of your really fast Amiga for?

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I had a Blizzard 1230 IV in the 00s which gave a nice boost to the desktop and some of the productivity software I used. However, anything beyond that would likely have had rapidly diminishing returns for my uses at the time. I sold it later and have been happy with just a fast RAM expansion in the trap door since.

Now that you can get hundreds of millions of instructions per second for relatively little money, I kind of feel like indulging, though, but I prefer having a concrete excuse. What could I be doing with that raw CPU power on an A1200? What are you doing? What classic software benefits from this and what modern software is built for it?

Subject: Amiga 500 RAM expansion RTC battery

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

I am the proud owner of three Amiga's 2x 1200 and a 500. The latter is a bit of a concern as everybody on YouTube almost begs to remove and or replace the battery. I opened the trap door and took the expansion out; see picture. It says "Sealed Ni Cd battery". There is no sign of leakage as far as I can see.

Is it possible that this battery is leak-free? Thanks for your help!
