I go by Wangiss because it's a character I wrote who I realized was my idealized grandfatherly future self. Just kidding. I did name the character that, but I invented the name originally as my character handle for Half Life: Counterstrike. As you may have guessed it's a portmanteau of humongous wang. Because Counterstrike is for penis jokes.

I've been at this shit for a while. I go by so many names. I have forgotten more than I remember. 


This is my BBS. It used to be very expensive to do this. Now it is cheap. Dirt cheap. It used to be the box cost me $2500. Today the box costs me $45 and $2500 is $250. 


So it is pennies on the dollar. But here we are. Use it. Make it your own. Make your corner of it. If it isn't illegal, I won't censor it, no matter WHAT I think of it. I won't protect it, either. If trolls show up, you have to figure it out. Or you can make it private. Whatever floats your boat.

I don't see a way to make new rooms, but I'll contribute in any rooms other people make I guess.

My first handle was Aragorn on Bantoom back when I was 12, because I was 12.  I later changed it to Kamikaze Chipmunk, which I still use as my hotmail account.

More recently I've been using the names Dalthariel on Steam, Leylia on Battle.net, and Talmoranquar on less savoury websites that I don't want linked to those other names.

Here I'm just The Dave because that's who I am and I like it.

Welcome, BodenMaddox. I don't want to gush - but I'd like people to understand how important your contributions to Citadelphia were - that without your contributions - not just in writing the code of Novu but in assisting me in getting it up and running - that The Santiarium/Amiga Archives would instead be The Thing That Would Not Be. ;) 

The Meadows brothers were equally important - I think - but the 3 of you were the driving force in making Citadel what it was in 916.

Even among my closest companions I don't reveal who I am "elsewhere".  During my brief (about a year) time on Fecesbook, some terrorist asswipe from Pakistan didn't like something I said online, and he followed me from Facebook to Twitter, from Twitter to LinkedIn, from LinkedIn to my employer, and sent an angry "fire this guy" email.  Thankfully we were a much smaller company then, and I escaped with a mere slap on the wrist.  Ever since then, I *never* use my real name, or my favorite Citadel handle, in the large forums I still frequent (mainly the Disqus comments sections on various web sites ... I refuse to use Fecesbook and I've been kicked off Twitter so many times that I don't even try to get on anymore).

It must be something about Citadel that attracts guys like us. 

I'm far less careful. I've had numerous death-threats going back to... well, the dial-up Citadel days, now that I think about it. Got into it with one online user who ended up getting arrested by the Sac PD after driving around in a car full of explosives for several hours shutting down highways everywhere he went. 

I would probably have used a pen-name when I was writing semi-professionally for a while, if I had a chance to go back and do it over.

This whole "side-net" or alt-net idea surrounding Citadel boards for online communication is very appealing to me. It is off the radar of a mainstream I find increasingly troubling. Thank you for keeping Citadel alive, IGnatius. 

And it does have to be a loosely organized network.  If my Citadel suddenly fell into the mainstream eye, it would be massively attacked by the establishment, and they'd ruin my life.  (Also, I work at the hosting provider where it's located, so my job would be at risk even though I didn't break any rules.)

So it does have to be bigger than one site or one organization.  It has to be an infection of liberty and free speech that keeps spreading uncontrollably.

This is the punk dilemma. In order to be authentic, a movement has to be small and only available to the people willing to put the most effort into being part of that movement. 

As long as a movement is "authentic," it has a very difficult time being *effective*.
